What is a Solo Ad? Joe buys multiple fitness products every year from a sporting goods store. He then subscribes to the stores’ fitness mailing list where related products and services are advertised. Mary, the solo ads seller, owns the sporting goods store and she controls the mailing list. Steve Random, the solo ads buyer, has created a new men’s fitness product that he’s struggling to advertise. So, Steve purchases a solo ad from the owner of the mailing list, Mary. Steve is given one email of advertising space to promote his product to the Joe Randoms of the world. This is “solo” because Steve’s product or service is the only thing advertised in the email. In the end, you have three winners. Mary made money off of her pre-existing mailing list and diversified its content, Steve was able to market (and hopefully sell) his product to target customers, and Joe got to see (and perhaps purchase) a new product that he can use to build up some muscles.
